Cooch Behar incident was pre-planned: Mamata Banerjee

Siliguri/UNI: West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said the Cooch Behar incident is pre-planned.

Banerjee said, “We will order CID probe into firing by central forces on voters at Sitalkuchi in Cooch Behar.”

Addressing a public meeting here, Ms Banerjee said Home minister Amit Shah is completely responsible for today's incident and he himself is the conspirator.

“We have sought home minister Amit Shah's resignation,” the chief minister said.

“I don't blame central forces because they work under home minister's order,” the TMC supremo alleged.

She questioned central forces' version of firing on voters in self-defence in Cooch Behar.

The TMC supremo said, "After killing so many people they (Election Commission) are saying the firing was in self-defence. They should feel ashamed. This is a lie."

I will be going to Mathabhanga hospital tomorrow at 10 am and from there I will go to Alipurduar. I couldn't go to Cooch Behar today due to Model Code of Conduct as polling is going on there,” Banerjee said.

Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) issued a statement on the incident involving CISF personnel.

The party has sought urgent intervention of the Election Commission into these incidents.

“Since morning BJP miscreants were blocking people’s right to vote while CRPF was influencing voters to vote in favour of BJP. This incident took place in Booth No. 126, Mathabhanga 1 Block, Sitalkuchi AC. When TMC workers went to enquire why people were not being allowed to vote, BJP miscreants launched an attack creating an atmosphere of chaos, following which CRPF open fired leading to 5 TMC workers losing their lives,” the statement read.

“It is also sad that the Election Commission has still not come out with a response on this dastardly attack. We strongly register our protest against this police-ordered killing. Shameful that the forces are acting like goons in uniform,” the statement added.
