COVID-19: West Bengal breaches 16,000-mark with highest single-day spike of 542 fresh cases, 10 more die

Kolkata/IBNS: West Bengal on Friday reported its highest single-day spike in Covid-19 cases as 542 more people tested positive in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the state to 16,190, including 5039 active cases, 616 deaths and 10,535 discharges.

According to a bulletin issued by West Bengal Health and Family Welfare (WBHFW) department, 10 people succumbed to coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours while 345 more Covid-19 patients were discharged from various health facilities across the state, taking the recovery rate to 65.07 per cent.

The WBHFW bulletin stated that of the 542 new cases, 419 cases (77.31 per cent) were reported from five neighbouring districts— Kolkata (128), Howrah (110), North 24 Parganas (99), South 24 Parganas (52) and Hooghly (30).

West Bengal has tested 4,48,795 samples till date with 9537 tests conducted in 50 testing facilities across the state in the last 24 hours, reports said.

Currently, 7330 persons are kept in government quarantine centres and 90771 people are under home surveillance in the state.
