Covid cases spike to a record high of 129 in Odisha; Tally rises to 1948
Bhubaneswar/UNI: The covid positive cases in Odisha spiked to a record high of 129, taking the total tally to 1948 on Sunday.
Health and family welfare department sources here said on May 30 last that 1948 covid positive cases were reported from 19 districts. They included 119 from the quarantine centres and ten local cases.
Kendrapara district in coastal Odisha reported a maximum of 18 positive cases followed by Gajapati (16), Nuapada (12) and Bolangir (11) cases. Ganjam and Jajpur districts accounted for ten each positive cases. The rest 13 districts reported single digit covid positive cases.
Sources said so far 1,52,131 samples were tested in the state. The covid positive cases stand at 1948, out of which 1050 have been cured and discharged from hospitals.
The state has 889 active cases at the moment. Jajpur district has the highest number of 95 cases followed by Ganjam(93), Khordha (67) and Cuttack (64) cases.
Seven covid patients have died so far and two others died due to some other health complications.
At least five districts have more than one hundred covid positive cases. They are Ganjam (414), Jajpur(269), Balasore(152), Khordha (138) and Bhadrak (113).
These five districts together accounted for over 55 per cent of total covid cases in the state.
Official sources said most of the covid positive cases reported from the state are the returnees from Gujarat, Maharastra, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka.
Over three lakh Odias have returned to the state since May 3 from outside the states by bus and train.
