CPI-M seeking support from all democratic parties in Bengal polls: Sitaram Yechury

New Delhi, Feb 18 (IBNS): After the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M)'s central committee's two-day-long meeting was over, party's general secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday said that the party was seeking support from all democratic parties to defeat the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and isolate the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming Assembly polls in West Bengal.

"Our main objective is to restore democracy in West Bengal. To achieve our aim, we have to defeat the TMC and isolate the BJP in Bengal assembly polls. We are seeking support and co-operation from all democratic and secular parties," Yechury said.

"CPI-M West Bengal state committee will take it forward from now onwards. Because they know who are the democratic forces in Bengal. Central committee is authorizing the state secretariat to take decision on the basis of proposal. Our Politbureau will give the final approval," he added.

Alleging a secret tie up between TMC and BJP, Sitaram Yechury said, "The TMC and BJP are continuing an unofficial alliance. That's why Saradha probe is being moved very slow."

When was asked about the possibilities of an alliance with the Congress party in West Bengal polls, Yechury replied, "We discussed the issue in our meeting and we have considered all the aspects. I have already said that our state committee will work out on this from now. We have not received any proposal from Congress party. Neither any discussion nor negotiation has been taken place so far with any other political organization."

"The most important thing is people's unity in Bengal. Let the proposal first from the Congress, then we will consider. Let's see what happens," he further said.

Welcoming the CPI-M central committee's decision, Congress leader Abdul Mannan told IBNS, "We are welcoming their decision. It's a very positive move, very important for Bengal's people. Possibility of our alliance or seat adjustment is moved a step forward by their decision."

"Our High Command is waiting for this. Now our central committee will announced its decision in next few days. Then the formal proposal, discussion and other process will be commenced. I believe, we can defeat Trinamool and isolate BJP in our state, by this alliance or seat adjustment," he added.
