Srinagar, Feb 8 (IBNS) In view of the protest and strike call given by all the separatist factions on Feb 9-11 to mark the death anniversaries of JKLF leader Mohammad Maqbool Bhat and Afzal Guru in the Kashmir Valley, all CRPF units and establishments across the Valley have been asked to stay on high alert, officials said on Monday.

A statement issued by Bhavesh Chaudry, Spl DG CRPF, J&K zone, has asked the CRPF deployment to remain extra-vigilant on the days of the strike.

“Taking a serious note of regular stone pelting on Fridays and Sundays in down town, the CRPF troops deployed in the city and  Down Town in particular, have been asked to keep close watch on various developments and to maintain an active co-ordination with JKP to counter any propaganda or provocation by separatists”, the statement reads.

DIG (OPS) CRPF Srinagar, Sanjeev Dhundia has reviewed the security situation in down town and has asked CRPF officers and men to remain vigilant and alert and to take adequate measures to prevent injuries to CRPF men.

“All CRPF Camps have been alerted and security has been strengthened and troops have been briefed to be ready to deal with any unforeseen law and order problem, without use of lethal weapons”, the statement further reads.

Precautionary measures have been taken after a recent incident in which a  grenade was also hurled, amid stone pelting in Saraf Kadal area of down town, targeting  CRPF troops.

However, the grenade did not explode.

Atul Karwal IG CRPF Srinagar has also directed to take effective measures, in co-ordination with JKP, to tackle any sort of protests or stone pelting with minimum use of force.

”CRPF is effectively dealing various, law and order problems, protests and stone pelting without use of any lethal force, despite severe provocation and grievous injuries to CRPF men”, he said.
