Curfew relaxation in Jammu passes peacefully, Class 8, 9 exams postponed
Jammu, Feb 19 (UNI): Life returned to normal as the curfew relaxation in parts of Jammu district on Tuesday passed off peacefully while examinations of class eighth and ninth standards scheduled for Wednesday have been postponed in Jammu district.
The 2G internet service was also restored in the province barring Jammu district where curfew was imposed on Friday after violence erupted during a daylong shutdown call by the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries to protest killing of CRPF personnel in Pulwama Attack.
The curfew relaxation passed off peacefully in all eight police station areas of Jammu North and Jammu South, official here said.
He added that there was no incident of any violence reported but the curfew will remain imposed in the district on Wednesday also and the decision regarding relaxing the restrictions will be taken in the meeting.
"All private and government schools and Colleges of Jammu district will remain shut tomorrow till further orders," he added and said that in view of curfew, the examinations of class eighth and ninth scheduled for Wednesday also stand postponed.
Meanwhile 3G and 4G mobile internet services would remain suspended but 2G services have been restored in the Jammu province except the Jammu district, which will be restored only after reviewing the situation.
Earlier in the afternoon, Ramesh Kumar, District Magistrate Jammu said that curfew was relaxed from 1500 hours to 1700 hours in Police Stations, Bus Stand, Pacca Danga, Bakshi Nagar and Janipur and from 1530 hours to 1900 hours in Gandhi Nagar, Gangyal, Bagh-e-Bahu, Satwari Police Stations.
"Section-144 to remain imposed in the areas where the curfew was relaxed," he said.
The curfew was also relaxed in the morning in the areas falling under Police Stations of Nowabad, City and Peermitha from 1130 hours to 1330 hours and it passed off peacefully.
The Deputy Commissioner also added that official identity cards of the Civil Secretariat Employees and the staff deployed with Essential Services shall be treated as curfew pass to facilitate their movement and added, "in addition Air Tickets, Railway Tickets and Admit Cards for various examinations would be also treated as curfew passes."
The District Magistrate has urged people to maintain peace and tranquillity and not allow the miscreants to create any trouble in their respective areas.
The Jammu University spokesman said that all the post graduate level examinations, CBCS (minor examinations), course work examinations of M.Phil and Ph.D to be conducted on February 20 and 21 stand postponed, due to unavoidable circumstances.
"Fresh dates shall be notified later on," said the spokesperson.
However, wine shops remained closed till further order.
People rushed to shops to purchase essential commodities while long queues were witnessed at filling stations and Automated Teller Machines during the curfew relaxation. Soon after the relaxation was announced and the messages were flashed on news channel, people rushed to the market to purchase daily need items.
The markets witnessed heavy rush of people especially the grocery and the shops dealing in sale of dairy products.
Life however, returned to normal in the curfew relaxed parts with a lot of hustle-bustle around as people were seen purchasing the required items.
