New Delhi, Apr 22 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh said he was 'deeply pained' to hear about the death of a farmer who committed suicide during a rally hosted by Aam Aadmi Party in New Delhi's Jantar Mantar on Wednesday.

"Deeply pained to hear the news of a farmer committing suicide at Jantar Mantar.Instructed Delhi CP to institute an inquiry into the incident," Singh tweeted.

He has directed the Delhi Police Commissioner to institute an inquiry into the incident.

The Home Ministry tweeted: "The HM spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner and instructed him to institute an inquiry into the incident of farmer suicide in Delhi."

"Joint CP Delhi Police has been asked to conduct an inquiry into the incident of farmer suicide at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today," it said.

The farmer has been identified as Gajender Singh Rajput. He was a farmer from Rajasthan.

Kejriwal blamed the police for the incident.

"The incidet that occurred in front of us was shameful," Kejriwal said while addressing the rally.

"The police should have saved him," he said.

Gajender hung himself from the tree and committed suicide.

After the man fell down from the tree, he was taken to a hospital.

In the hospital, doctors declared him dead.

The AAP hosted the rally to protest against Centre's Land Acquisition Ordinance.
