Delhi extends lockdown to curb Covid spread by another week
New Delhi/IBNS: The lockdown in Delhi has been further extended by another week, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced on Sunday.
Kejriwal said the decision to extend the lockdown has been taken to curb the Covid numbers, which while on the decline, is yet to reach below the 5 per cent positivity rate.
"We have been witnessing good recovery following the lockdown. Coronavirus cases have been on a decline," Kejriwal told reporters on Sunday.
"We don't want to lose the gain that we have made in the last few days. We are extending the lockdown for one more week. Instead of tomorrow, lockdown is extended till next Monday, 5 am in Delhi," he added.
Delhi, which is one of the worst-hit cities during the second wave of the pandemic, had recorded 8,506 coronavirus cases on Friday.
Medical experts have pointed that the dip in cases has resulted mainly due to the strict lockdown measures.
