Delhi horror: Senior bureaucrat's daughter raped, strangled; former domestic help held

A 22-year-old woman, an IIT graduate and daughter of a senior bureaucrat, was found dead at her residence in southeast Delhi, with police alleging she was sexually assaulted and strangled.

The incident took place in East of Kailash, where the woman was alone at the time. Family members discovered her under suspicious circumstances and alerted authorities.

Police said there were no signs of forced entry, suggesting the accused may have had access to the house.

Former domestic help arrested

Police have arrested a 19-year-old former domestic worker, identified as Rahul, in connection with the case. He had been dismissed from the household over a month ago.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police Vijay Kumar, the accused had a history of borrowing money from other domestic workers and failing to repay it, which led to his termination.

He was tracked down and arrested from a hotel in Dwarka, where he had been hiding. He faces charges of rape, murder, and robbery.

CCTV footage, spare key under probe

Investigators said CCTV footage shows the accused leaving the victim’s residence around 6:28 am on the day of the crime.

Police suspect he entered the house using a spare key. Further investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and confirm all details.

Victim was a UPSC aspirant, an IIT graduate

The woman had studied at Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram and later graduated from IIT Delhi. She was preparing for the UPSC civil services examination.

She was also a trained dancer and had won several awards in competitions. Her family includes a senior bureaucrat father, a doctor mother, and a brother working in a multinational company.

Accused’s background raises questions

Police said the accused had arrived in Delhi from Alwar the previous night. During inquiries at his hometown, officials found he had earlier been involved in a sexual harassment case.

He had reportedly been hired through a reference linked to a staff member at the victim’s father’s office.

The case has raised serious concerns about domestic worker verification and urban household security, with police continuing their investigation.
