New Delhi/IBSN: Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has given his nod to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s proposal to hold elections for the post of city’s mayor on February 22, Wednesday.

As per the order issued by the Lieutenant Governor, elections for the mayor, deputy mayor and six members of the standing committee will be held on Wednesday, India Today reported.

Earlier on the day, Kejriwal shot a letter to the LG seeking his approval for the elections on February 22.

The development followed Supreme Court orders to fix the date for the election of the mayor after convening a meeting.

Delhi Municipal Corporation Act stipulates that the Municipal House has to meet within a month after the conclusion of the civic polls and elect the mayor.

The Delhi civic polls concluded on December 4. But the mayor is yet to be elected as the election has been stalled thrice.

The AAP unseated the BJP on December 4, ending its 15-year rule of the civic body.
