Delhi Police flags 2,500 suspected criminals at Jantar Mantar amid NEET protest
New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi Police has identified more than 2,500 suspected criminals in and around Jantar Mantar over the past three days using technology-driven surveillance, as authorities step up security amid the ongoing nationwide protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.
According to police sources, several history-sheeters allegedly infiltrated the protest site, with some reportedly carrying sharp-edged weapons and knives.
The inputs have prompted security agencies to intensify monitoring around the demonstration venue.
Surveillance intensified around protest venue
Police said the suspects were identified through AI-assisted surveillance systems, including facial recognition and video analytics deployed at and around Jantar Mantar. Authorities are now analysing the data to verify identities and determine whether any of those flagged were involved in criminal activities or posed a security threat.
Officials said teams have been tasked with tracking the identified individuals, and appropriate legal action will be taken wherever evidence of criminal intent or unlawful activity is found.
Security tightened amid massive demonstrations
Jantar Mantar has emerged as the epicentre of the nationwide agitation demanding accountability over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Thousands of students, youth activists and members of various organisations have been participating in the protests over the past several days, prompting Delhi Police to deploy additional personnel, install enhanced surveillance systems and conduct continuous monitoring to maintain law and order.
