New Delhi/IBNS: The death toll in the ongoing violence over the new citizenship law touched 17 on Wednesday.

According to reports, NSA Ajit Doval visited the violence-hit regions of the national capital.

Several protesters, who tried to gherao the residence of Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, were detained and later released by the police on Wednesday, media reports said.

The call to gherao the CM’s residence was given by Jamia Co-ordination Committee (JCC) and Alumni Association of Jamia Millia Islamia. (AAJMI), reported Hindustan Times.

According to reports, the protesters alleged that police used water canons to disperse the crowd.

Meanwhile, Metro services have resumed in all the stations where it was shut down for the past few days.

Delhi has been witnessing violent protests for the past few days.

The new citizenship law, which was passed by the Indian government late last year, had triggered massive protests in different parts of the country including Delhi.
