Demonetisation : Opposition forces adjournments in both Houses demanding PM's statement and mourning for those dead

New Delhi, Nov 21 (IBNS) : The Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 pm while the Rajya Sabha witnessed adjournment twice on Monday as the Opposition continued to protest the Government's demonetisation move in both Houses, while demanding that Prime Minister Narendra Modi make a statement on the sudden ban on high denomination notes.

A united opposition forced two adjournments in the Rajya Sabha in the pre-noon session insisting that the House mourns the nearly 70 deaths-mostly of elderly people, who collapsed while standing in long queues outside banks or ATMs across the country-before any discussion on demonetisation.

The Congress hosted a meeting this morning of opposition parties to take a united move on the issue.

On November eight, PM Modi announced scrapping of the  500 and 1,000 rupee notes.  He said the reform would combat black money and corruption.

However, the Opposition has been up in arms against the Government for "execution" of the plan that caused immense hardship to the people across the country.

With all the high value notes being deposited in banks and a cap being in place on withdrawal of money, an acute cash crunch has hit all people and left transactions sagging.
.
PM Modi has sought 50 days to fix the cash problem, promising long-term benefits from the demonetisation.
