DMK activists arrested for attack on scribes

Several journalists were injured when they were allegedly attacked by DMK supporters who had gathered outside the leader's house to persuade him to not resign following a poll debacle.

Several TV news cameras were smashed over the attack that was triggered allegedly due to the party workers' resentment against the media after failing to win even a single of the 40 seats from Tamil Nadu in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections.

The DMK however said it regretted the violence and blamed "anti-social elements."

DMK leader TKS Elangovan on Sunday said, "Some evil forces could have infiltrated the crowd and created confusion. However, as organisation secretary of DMK, I express my deep regret on the attack on journalists."

M K Stalin meanwhile tweeted: "My sympathy for press reporters facing unpleasant events from external elements who were present along with party workers and media outside my home (sic)."

Stalin, who had led the DMK campaign for the national election, had offered to resign from party posts but agreed not to after being asked not to by father and party chief, M Karunanidhi.
