DMK, allies stage walk out of Tamil Nadu Assembly on CAA

Chennai/UNI: The Opposition DMK and its allies on Thursday staged a walk out from the Tamil Nadu after Speaker P Dhanapal refused permission for them to raise their demand for a resolution against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

Raising the issue during the Zero Hour, Deputy Leader of the Opposition Duraimurugan said the DMK gave a representation seeking to move a private resolution demanding the withdrawal of CAA and sought to know whether it would be taken up today.

To this, the Speaker said it was still under his consideration.

Dissatisfied with the reply, the DMK members staged a walk out. Their allies, the Congress and IUML also followed suit.

Later, talking to reporters outside the Assembly complex, Duraimurugan said since today was the last day of the ongoing session, he was not satisfied with the Speaker's reply.

''Hence, we staged a walkout'', he added.
