‘Don’t you understand Hindu culture?’ 8 booked after tourists allegedly assaulted over clothes at Pune fort

Pune/IBNS: The Maharashtra Police have registered a case against eight members of a right-wing outfit for allegedly heckling and assaulting four tourists, including a woman, at Sinhagad Fort near Pune, media reports said.

What happened?

Members of the right-wing outfit Samast Hindu Bandhav Army allegedly confronted the tourists over their attire.

The group reportedly objected to the tourists wearing sleeveless tops and shorts, citing Hindu culture.

The 39-year-old complainant, who works at a private firm in Pune, alleged that the group members questioned him about wearing shorts before some of them slapped him.

He further alleged that his wife was dragged by a woman from the group, while members repeatedly shouted, "Don't you understand Hindu culture?"

Dispute escalated into assault

According to police, the dispute began after members of the group objected to a woman wearing shorts. The confrontation later escalated, with the complainant allegedly being assaulted.

The incident took place near the Samadhi (memorial) of Tanaji Malusare at Sinhagad Fort.

FIR registered against eight

Police have registered an FIR against eight members of the group, identified as Sanket Sanjay Patil, Ashish Dilip Apar, Revan Narayan Kokte, Sayali Sujit Chavan, Ketaki Suraj Jadhav, Amar Ramchandra Shirke, Kunal Kisan Nalawade and Arya Praveen Kawade, Hindustan Times reported.
