Early trends show AIADMK, DMK in neck and neck race in Tamil Nadu

Chennai/UNI: The ruling AIADMK and the Opposition DMK are involved in a neck and neck race as counting of votes began amid tight security and strict COVID protocols on Sunday.

Early trends showed that DMK was slightly ahead of AIADMK.

In the bypoll to Kanyakumari Lok Sabha seat, Congress has established early lead against the BJP. The bypoll was being held to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Congress MP H Vasanthakumar due to coronavirus.

An hour into the counting, the DMK-led alliance established leads in 37 seats, while the AIADMK-front is leading in 32 seats.

AMMK of TTV Dhinakaran is leading in one seat, while MNM of actor-politician Kamal Haasan is also ahead in one seat.

As per the trends in the Election Commission website, AIADMK Front was leading in 10 seats and DMK-led alliance in seven seats.

As regards vote percentage, the DMK has so far got 40.9 per cent, while the AIADMK 35.52 per cent.

All top leaders including Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami (Edappadi), Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam (Bodinayakanur), DMK President M K Stalin (Kolathur), his son and DMK Youth Wing leader Udhayanihi (Chepauk-Tiruvallikeni), BJP State President L Murugan (Dharapuram-R), Ministers, Kamal Haasan (Coimbatore South) and senior DMK leaders and former Ministers have established early leads in their respective constituencies.
