Enroll women in social security schemes as Raksha Bandhan gift: PM Modi in Mann ki Baat
New Delhi, June 28 (IBNS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stayed away from the recent political controversies during his monthly 'Mann Ki Baat' address, and focused on women related issues, while urging for their empowerment.
He said for this year's Raksha Bandhan, brothers should do something special for their sisters and make them more empowered.
"For this Raksha Bandhan we should do something special. I urge you to please enroll the sisters who work for you, at your homes and in your fields, for the Rs. 12 and Rs. 320 social security programmes which will provide them with security in life," said Modi at his ninth radio address.
Speaking on an initiative started by a Sarpanch in a village in Haryana, PM Modi asked people to post selfies of themselves with their daughters on microblogging site Twitter.
"I urge all of you, share a #SelfieWithDaughter," he said.
Referring to the Beti Bachao Beti Padao (Save the Girl Child, Educate Her) initiative, he also asked them to post stirring taglines to the post.
Modi also lauded people for posting images of several beautiful places of India which can be a good tourist attraction,
The Prime Minister also spoke on the success of the International Yoga Day celebration.
He said the world wants to learn more about the Indian traditions and people should work together in making them aware of the same.
"I urge IT professionals to start an initiative online so that people can get every information related Yoga," said he.
He said the AYUSH department of the government was almost unknown to people until the Yoga Day initiatives were led by it.
"There is AYUSH department but it never drew much attention. On Yoga Day it was the AYUSH department that led the way," he said.
The Prime Minister in his Mann Ki Baat address also asked farmers to practice rain water harvesting.
