New Delhi/IBNS: Delhi got its new Lieutenant Governor in Vinai Kumar Saxena with his appointment on Monday, just days after his predecessor Anil Baijal resigned citing "personal reasons".

"The President of India has accepted the resignation of Shri Anil Baijal as Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi," the President's Office said in a statement.

"The President of India has been pleased to appoint Shri Vinai Kumar Saxena to be the Lt. Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi with effect from the date he assumes charge of his office," it added.

Saxena was the Chairman of Khadi & Village Industries Commission.

Anil Baijal, who served a tenure of more than five years, had often been at loggerheads with Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal over several issues.

A major tussle had surfaced when Kejriwal and his Cabinet colleagues held a demonstration at Baijal's office alleging officers posted with the Delhi government were not cooperating with the elected representatives of AAP.
