Farmers voice dissent against govt. in drought hit Maharashtra region
Speaking to a national TV channel, a farmer said that the government is responsible for the high suicide rate. He further accused the government of totally ignoring the farmers and their sustaining problems.
He said that the central government is not even ready to pay them the base price for anything.
"We grow vegetables for the entire country, we feed you and here we are dying," the farmer said.
As an unprecedented drought unsettles parts of Maharashtra, CM Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday along with his other cabinet ministers visited the affected areas, taking note of the situation and announcing several packages for the farmers, according to reports.
Fadnavis said that he is aware of the situation and is ready to take steps to reduce it.
He also announced a 50 percent compensation for farmers with no crop insurgence.
