Srinagar: Security officials on Tuesday detained former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah’s sister and daughter who were protesting against the central government's move of scrapping Article 370 in the region.

The Article had given special status to Jammu and Kashmir.

Farooq Abdullah’s sister Suraiya and his daughter Safiya were leading the group of women activists who were demonstrating against the Centre's move.

Incidentally, Farooq Abdullah and his son Omar  Abdullah were put under house arrest after the Centre had scrapped Article 370 on Aug 5.

Farooq’s sister and daughter were protesting against the scrapping of Article 370 along with a group of Kashmiri women, carrying placards which read, 'Kashmiri brides not for sale', 'Why to downgrade Jammu and Kashmir state', reported Times Now.

They were detained and taken to a nearby police station, media reports said.
