Fight against COVID-19: First US relief shipment from US arrives in India

New Delhi: The first relief shipment from the US to India to fight the ongoing COVID-19 arrived here on Friday.

"The first of several emergency COVID-19 relief shipments from the United States has arrived in India! Building on over 70 years of cooperation, the United States stands with India as we fight the COVID-19 pandemic together. #USIndiaDosti," tweeted the US embassy in India.

India is battered by the deadly COVID-19 second wave.

India recorded  3498 deaths due to COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, as per Ministry of Health released data on Friday.

During the same period, 3,86,452 fresh cases were also registered.

There are 31,70,228 active cases in the country at present.

Several nations have offered help to India to fight the crisis situation.

India is witnessing a massive spike in cases and deaths for the past several weeks.

It was the third consecutive day when India reported more than 3.5 lakh cases.

On Thursday, the country reported 379,257 cases and 3,645 deaths, which is the highest single-day spike in cases and deaths. On Wednesday, 3,60,960 new infections and 3,293 were recorded.

On a positive front, 2,97,540 people recovered from the virus, taking the total recoveries to 1,53,84,418.
