Fire guts marketplace near Kolkata, one injured
According to reports, the fire was first noticed at around 4:20 am. It spread quickly, triggering panic among the local people as it the fire occurred in a congested zone.
As many as 14 fire tenders rushed to the spot and after a few hours, the fire was brought under control.
During the firefighting operation, one local shopkeeper- Sunil Pal- was injured and rushed to Howrah State General Hospital, reports said.
At least 100 shops, in the market, were gutted completely due to the massive blaze.
After preliminary investigation, fire officials said that the fire might have started due to a short circuit in a shop and it spread very fast as plenty of flammable objects were strewn in the market.
Fire and emergency services officers also claimed that the market did not have its own fire-extinguishing system.
