Guwahati, June 11 (IBNS): The Assam police have cracked down on the banned Karbi militant group Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) anti-talk faction and arrested its top leaders, including the Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C).

Five top leaders of the dreaded KPLT were arrested in a joint operation by the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district police at Umrangso in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Sunday.

A top police official said the arrested militants were also involved in several rhino poaching incidents in the state.

According to the reports, the security personnel had also seized huge cache of arms and ammunition in possession from them.

Based on intelligence input about presence of a militant group at Umrangso area, the Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district police had jointly launched operation in the hilly area and arrested the militants including two top leaders of the banned outfit.

The arrested militants were identified as self-styled Commander in Chief (C-in-C) Mensing Kramsa, General Secretary Bistar Hanse, Hedsing Phanso, Jiten Kro, Harsing Ronghi.

Security personnel had recovered four pistols with magazines, several rounds of live cartridges, several sets of mobile phone, SIM cards and extortion letters including other objectionable items in possession from them.

It is to be mentioned that, security forces had arrested Deputy C-in-C Mensing Tokbi earlier.

The Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao district police had jointly launched operation against the militant group in the both districts in past 15 days and arrested several hardcore militants of the group.

“The Karbi Anglong district police in association with Dima Hasa district police have been successful in apprehension of the leaders of KPLT anti-talk faction. They are not talks with the government. They are anti-talk faction of KPLT and the arrest of the self styled C-in-C and the Deputy C-in-C, we think that the anti-talk faction has been come to end,” a top police official said.
