Ranchi, June 22 (IBNS) At least five women belonging to a non-profit were allegedly gang-raped by armed men who had abducted them while they were raising awareness against human trafficking in a village in Khunti district of Jharkhand, media reports said on Friday.

While arrests were yet to be made, police told media that they have identified the suspects and are on a hunt to nab them.

According to media reports, the police filed an FIR and Ranchi DIG Amol V Homkar formed three teams to probe it.

Reports said the accused men were followers of the Pathalgarhi movement, under which some tribal villages consider their regions as "sovereign" authorities.

According to an NDTV report, a performance was in progress when the armed men came and abducted them.

It said two nuns who were with the victims were released unharmed. The women were released after the assaults in a jungle, said reports.
