Five Rohingyas deported to Myanmar via Manipur’s Moreh
Guwahati, Jan 3 (IBNS): Five Rohingyas including two women on Thursday deported to Myanmar via Manipur’s Moreh along Indo-Myanmar border.
The five Rohingyas, who illegally entered into India in 2014 and lodged in a foreigner detention camp inside the Tezpur jail in Assam’s Sonitpur district after they were found guilty of illegally entered into India.
The five Myanmar nationals have been identified as Mohammad Riyas, Ahmed Hussain, Mohammad Ayas, Toyaba Khatun and Azida Begum and they are residents of Myanmar’s Buthitang area.
Top officials of Myanmar and Manipur were present during the deportation process at Moreh.
The Sonitpur district police of Assam on Wednesday sent them to Manipur’s Moreh town for deportation.
Sonitpur district Superintendent of Police (SP) Prithipal Singh said that, the five Myanmar nationals were arrested for violating the Foreigners act and they were lodged at Tezpur jail.
In October last, seven Rohingyas were deported to Myanmar through Moreh along Indo-Myanmar border.
The seven Rohingyas were arrested by Assam police on July 29 in 2012 for violating the Foreigners act and they were lodged at Silchar detention camp.
There are 20 other Rohingyas from Myanmar are still lodged in different jails in Assam.
Among them, 13 are lodged in Tezpur detention camp, while 6 in Silchar and one in Goalpara in Assam.
Last year, Manipur police had arrested a couple hailing from Uttar Pradesh for their alleged involvement in the trafficking of Rohingyas from Myanmar into Manipur.
On April 8 last, Manipur police commandos had arrested two Rohingyas, who entered into the north eastern state via Moreh border without valid documents.
On the other hand, Manipur police had arrested three other Rohingyas on March 22 last year near Moreh town in Tengnoupal district along with Myanmar border.
