Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee's condition stable

Kolkata, Sep 7 (UNI/IBNS) Former West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who was hospitalised following chest infection and respirartory problem in Kolkata, is currently stable, hospital sources said.

Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, who was rushed to a private hospital in south Kolkata last night and admitted to ICCU after complaining of uneasiness following acute breathing problem, was given a unit of blood last night and another would be administered by the day after his haemoglobin count dropped.

Additional oxygen was also administered.

Left leader Rabin Deb claimed that the veteran Marxist wanted to return home when he first talked to the people.

However, he was convinced to stay in the private hospital for now considering his health.

He said the medics will do some tests to verify ailments for proper diagnostics.

The 75-year-old veteran CPI(M) leader has been suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for quite some time.

An eight-member team of specialised doctors is monitoring his condition, the official said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee visited Bhattacharjee in the hospital hours after the veteran Marxist was admitted to the health facility and spoke to the doctors about his condition.

Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, senior CPI(M) leaders Surjya Kanta Mishra and Congress leader Pradip Bhattacharya and others also rushed to the hospital.
