Kolkata/IBNS: Four people have been arrested in connection with the bomb blast that killed a minor girl during vote counting of Kaliganj byelections.

The incident happened in Molandi, Borochandghar under Kaliganj police station jurisdiction in the Nadia district.

The four accused are Adar Sk, Manowar Sk, Kalu Sk and Anwar Sk.

As per reports, Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters celebrated the party's win in the by-elections by throwing a crude bomb at a CPI-M supporter's house.

One of the bombs exploded near nine-year-old girl Tamanna Khatun. She died of her injuries.

Reacting to the incident, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has asked police to take "action" against the culprits.

The Chief Minister posted on X, "I am shocked and deeply saddened at the death of a young girl in an explosion at Barochandgar in Krishnanagar police district. My prayers and thoughts are with the family in their hour of grief.

"Police shall take strong and decisive legal action against the culprits at the earliest."

Slamming Mamata, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) IT Cell head Amit Malviya wrote on X, "... This is the blood price of Mamata Banerjee’s violent, vote-bank-driven politics. West Bengal has no law and order left. Mamata Banerjee, ironically the state’s Home Minister, has failed spectacularly as an administrator.

"Worse, she fuels radicalised politics to polarise and retain her Muslim vote bank—only for innocent children like Tamanna to pay with their lives. This is not governance. This is criminal neglect."

TMC's Alifa Ahmed defeated BJP's Ashish Ghosh by around 50,000 votes in the Kaliganj byelection.

The voting took place on June 19.

Reacting to her party's win, Mamata posted on X, "People of all religions, castes, races and walks of life in the area have blessed us immensely by exercising their right to vote in the by-elections to the Kaliganj Assembly constituency. I humbly express my gratitude to them..."
