Fresh stand-off between Kejriwal and Najeeb Jung
Media reports said the Arvind Kejriwal government has requested other state governments to depute policemen for its ACB which is short of manpower and the Bihar government responded by offering officers from the state force in a "mutual understanding."
In a press statement on Tuesday morning the Lieutenant Governor's office said , "The office of the Lt. Governor has so far not received any proposal for the deputation of such personnel from outside Delhi Police."
It also said, "The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) Delhi, being a police station, functions under the authority, control and supervision of the Lt. Governor, a position that has also been clarified by the Ministry of Home Affairs."
"The matter will be duly examined as and when the Lt. Governor receives the formal proposal from the Vigilance department of Delhi government," it said in a clear disapproval of the state government's move to seek police personnel on its own from other states.
The issue of primacy in Delhi's administration is already is already in court after the appointment of a senior bureaucrat turned out to be the flash point of a full blown war for authority broke out between Kejriwal and Jung.
After the centre issued a notification apparently putting its weight behind the Lieutenant Governor in demarcating the respective areas of power, it was challenged in the Delhi High Court which asked the e Centre to explain its notification at the next hearing.
The High Court had earlier described the order as "suspect," but the Supreme Court has directed that future hearings should not be influenced by that remark.
Kejriwal has sought support from other non-BJP chief ministers over what he calls the Modi government's attack on the federal structure.
