Kolkata/IBNS: A Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata is set to chronicle the political journey of West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari, who assumed office after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power in the state for the first time in May 2026.

The Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha's West Bengal unit is organising the puja near Ruby More in Kolkata, with the theme “Nandigram Theke Nabanna: Bubair Joyjatra”, which translates roughly to “From Nandigram to Nabanna: Bubai's journey of victory.”

From Nandigram to Nabanna

The pandal will showcase different stages of Adhikari's political journey — from his early life and entry into politics to his role in the Nandigram movement, association with the Trinamool Congress (TMC), subsequent switch to the BJP and tenure as Leader of the Opposition from 2021 to 2026.

The display will culminate with his rise to the post of West Bengal Chief Minister following the BJP's victory in the 2026 Assembly elections.

Bust, documentary and Patachitra

According to the organisers, the pandal will feature a bust of Suvendu Adhikari, along with photographs and models depicting various stages of his life and political career.

The installation will also incorporate murals, flex panels and traditional Bengali Patachitra elements. A miniature artistic representation of Adhikari is also planned.

In addition, a documentary covering his political career and major milestones will be screened at the venue. The organisers also plan to showcase the initiatives and achievements of the BJP government in West Bengal.

The bust is reportedly being created by sculptor Kajal Pal in Krishnanagar, while artist Manik Debnath has been approached for the miniature representation.

‘A visual narrative of his political journey’

Hindu Mahasabha state president Chandrachur Goswami said the theme was chosen to commemorate the BJP forming its first government in West Bengal, with Adhikari becoming the state's Chief Minister.

The organisers have described Adhikari as a “Sanatani” and said the pandal is intended to serve as a visual narrative of his political journey.

The theme is notable for placing a contemporary political leader at the centre of a Durga Puja pandal, potentially adding a political dimension to the festival's traditional cultural and artistic celebrations this year.
