Ghaziabad madrassa rape of minor : Accused not a juvenile, says bone test report

New Delhi, May 2 (IBNS) : The Delhi Police on Tuesday submitted the ossification (bone) test report of the accused in the Ghaziabad rape case before the Juvenile Justice (JJ) Board, stating that he is not a juvenile, media reports said on Wednesday.

The report stated that the accused is an adult, around 20-21 years old.

The accused had claimed he was 17 years old when he was apprehended for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl inside the premises of a madrasa in Ghaziabad.

He had abducted the victim from near her residence in east Delhi’s Ghazipur.

The Hindu quoted Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ramgopal Naik as saying that the ossification test report for determining the age of the accused  was received on Sunday and was submitted before the JJ Board on Tuesday.

A senior police officer said that after the doctors confirm the report in front of the JJ Board, the accused will be tried as an adult.

The Crime Branch, which is probing the case, had asked for the test to be conducted after the accused failed to produce any documents proving that he was 17.

The cleric of the madrasa was arrested on April 27 for allegedly not informing the police despite having knowledge about the girl’s presence on the campus.

The family of the victim, however, demanded that the case be transferred to the CBI.
