Gold biscuits worth Rs 2.95 crore seized by Assam Rifles in Manipur

Guwahati, Oct 2 (IBNS): The Assam Rifles troops apprehended a gold smuggler and recovered 47 gold biscuit worth Rs 2.95 crore in Manipur's Tengnoupal district on Tuesday, officials said on Wednesday. 

A top official said that, based on specific information, the troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) apprehended the gold smuggler during a search at Khudengthabi Check-Post in Tengnoupal district.
      
"The Assam Rifles personnel had stopped a silver colour van at Khudengthabi Check-Post and after a  thorough search of the vehicle, 47 gold biscuits weighing 7.771 kg, worth approximately Rs 2.95 crore were recovered from the vehicle," the official said.

Security personnel apprehended the driver of the vehicle named Jamthoung Touthang, a resident of Moreh. 

These biscuits were hidden well concealed in the ceiling of the vehicle. 

The apprehendee along with the recovered gold biscuits have been  handed over to Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Imphal for further investigation.
