Gold smuggling case: Sivasankar held in Customs case too

Kochi/UNI: The Customs officials on Tuesday arrested M Sivasankar, former principal secretary to Chief Minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan at the district prison here in the diplomatic channel gold smuggling case.

The officials produced the remand report and other details at the Economic Offences Court in Ernakulam, which is trying the case.

The officials had made it clear that Sivasankar needed to be interrogated in custody for collecting more information. They received some important information about Sivasankar when they interrogated Swapna Suresh, prime accused in the case.

Earlier, the Enforcement Directorate said that Swapna revealed more details about the involvement of Sivasankar and other staff in the chief minister's office in gold smuggling.

The agency has categorised him as suspected accused and noted that it was yet to determine the actual involvement of Sivasankar in the case.
