New Delhi/IBNS: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said the government believes in giving citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi refugees who came from three Muslim dominated nations, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan, a move which may irk several opposition parties across the nation.

Speaking on National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Rajya Sabha, Shah said, "It is true that the government believes in giving citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Parsi refugees who came to India from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan."

Also Shah urged all citizens not to panic over the NRC.

Shah's push for the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) has assumed significance after the NRC in Assam excluded over 19 lakh people with more than 11 lakh of them being Hindus.
