Govt issues notification on incentives and disincentives in Vehicle Scrapping Policy

New Delhi/IBNS: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has proposed a system of incentives and disincentives to nudge vehicle owners to discard old and polluting vehicles, which have higher maintenance and fuel consumption costs.

The ministry has proposed the system of incentives in the Vehicle Scrapping Policy and it will be applicable from April 1, 2022.

As an incentive, there will be a waiver of the fee for the issue of the certificate of registration for a new vehicle, purchased against the authority of the Certificate of Deposit (CoD) issued by a Registered Vehicle Scrapping Facility for a vehicle being scrapped.

As a disincentive increase in the fee for conducting fitness tests and renewal of fitness certificates for motor vehicles more than 15 years old.

Further, an increase in the fitness certification fee for transport vehicles more than 15 years old will be imposed.

Also, a higher renewal of registration fee will be charged for personal vehicles (non-transport vehicles) older than 15 years.
