Ahmedabad/IBNS: Indian Railways has officially renamed the much-anticipated Vande Metro as the 'Namo Bharat Rapid Rail', which is scheduled to be flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad at 3:30 pm on Monday (Sept. 16), just a day before his birthday.

The country's maiden Namo Bharat Rapid Rail will connect Bhuj in Gujarat’s Kutch district with Ahmedabad, one of the state’s largest cities, covering the 360-kilometre journey in just under six hours.

With a maximum speed of 110 kilometres per hour, the train will make several stops at important stations including Anjar, Gandhidham, Bhachau, Samakhiali, Halvad, Dhrangadhra, Viramgam, Chandlodiya, Sabarmati, and finally Kalupur in Ahmedabad.

The service will operate six days a week, with a break on Saturdays for Bhuj departures and on Sundays for Ahmedabad departures.

The train will leave Bhuj at 5:05 am and arrive in Ahmedabad at 10:50 am, while the return journey will depart Ahmedabad at 5:30 pm and reach Bhuj by 11:20 pm.

This fully air-conditioned metro features modern amenities such as automatic sliding doors and engines at both ends, setting it apart from the Vande Bharat Express with features typically found in suburban metro services.

All you need to know about 'Namo Bharat Rapid Rail':

The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail distinguishes itself with cutting-edge features such as an under-slung propulsion system and advanced braking mechanisms, designed to provide a smoother and more efficient ride.

These technologies enable rapid acceleration and deceleration, making the train particularly suited for urban and suburban commuting where effective stop-start capabilities are crucial to minimizing delays.

Comprising 12 coaches, the train offers seating for 1,150 passengers and standing room for 2,058, providing substantial capacity for busy urban and suburban routes.

The incorporation of semi-permanent couplers ensures a jerk-free travel experience, while double-driving cabs at both ends facilitate quicker turnaround times at terminal stations.

The Namo Bharat Rapid Rail features a unique coach configuration where four coaches form a single unit.

Initially, 12 coaches will be launched, with the potential to expand to 16 coaches depending on demand, allowing the system to adapt efficiently to varying passenger volumes.

Passenger comfort is a top priority, with fully air-conditioned cabins and ergonomically designed 3x3 seating arrangements for medium-distance travel.

The train’s wide gangways facilitate easy movement between coaches, and automatic sliding doors ensure swift and safe boarding and deboarding.

The modular interiors create a modern and inviting environment for commuters.

Keeping the passengers' safety in mind, the train is equipped with the KAVACH collision avoidance system, which can automatically halt the train in the event of a potential collision.

The train is also equipped with fire detection and suppression systems, including aerosol-based fire suppression technology, enhancing its safety features.

Emergency lighting and a talk-back system are available for passengers to communicate directly with the driver if needed.

The advanced design of the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail ensures minimal turnaround time, boosting operational efficiency.

Its speed and reliability represent a significant improvement over traditional rail services, greatly reducing travel time.

Additionally, the Namo Bharat Rapid Rail is environmentally friendly.

Its efficient propulsion system and regenerative braking contribute to lower energy consumption, aligning with India’s broader goals for sustainable urban transportation solutions.

The minimum fare for the train is set at Rs 30, inclusive of GST, and a one-way ticket from Bhuj to Ahmedabad is expected to cost approximately Rs 430, excluding GST.

For frequent travellers, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly season tickets will be available, offering savings of Rs 7, Rs 15, and Rs 20 per single journey, respectively.
