Gunfight erupts between security forces, militants

Srinagar, Jan 15 (IBNS): Gunfight erupted between suspected militants and security forces in Pahalgam area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Sunday.

According to reports, on tip of information army and police laid seige in Awoora village of Pahalgam to flush out the militants.

"When forces zeroed in around the house hiding militants opened fire on forces resulting fierce gunfight," said a police official.

He further said operation were called off for the night and will resume it early morning.

Meanwhile, reports said number of youths shouted slogans near the encounter site to help militants to escape from the site.
