Gunmen kill PDP worker in south Kashmir

Srinagar, May 20 (UNI): A worker of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in south Kashmir district of Kulgam late Sunday night, official sources said on Monday.

Former Chief Minister and Vice President of National Conference (NC) Omar Abdullah condemned the killing.

Taking to micro-blogging site twitter, Omar said,' What terrible news, inna lilahi wa inna illahi rajiuun. My unequivocal condemnation of this murderous attack. Allah taala magfirat farmaye. My condolences to his family, loved ones & colleagues'.

According to official sources, gunmen entered the house of a 69-year-old PDP worker Mohammad Ismail Bhat at Devsar, Kulgam in south Kashmir late last night. However, before the inmates could do anything gunmen fired upon Bhat who received two bullet injuries.

Bhat was rushed to local hospital from where he was referred to S K Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) in a critical condition, they said adding he has succumbed.

Bhat was the second PDP worker killed by gunmen in south Kashmir. Last week a PDP worker was shot dead and another injured by gunmen in Shopian.
