Hardcore NDFB-S militant gunned down in Assam

Guwahati, July 25 (IBNS): Security forces gunned down one hardcore militant belonging to NDFS-S in Assam's Kokrajhar district in the early hours on Tuesday, officials said.

According to the reports, based on intelligence input, army and police had launched a joint operation at Natun Bashbari area in the BTAD district on Monday night.

"When the troops reached the remote area, the militants hidden in the area started firing. During the gun battle, a hardcore militant was killed on the spot," a top police official said.

Other militants managed to escape.

Security forces recovered one AK-47 rifle, a hand grenade and a large quantity of ammunition from the encounter spot.

The slain militant is yet to be identified.

The area has been cordoned off and combing operation launched.
