Heavy rain, hailstones hit several villages in Nagaland

Guwahati/IBNS: Heavy rain accompanied with massive hailstones hit several villages in Nagaland’s Kiphire district on Tuesday evening.

At least eight villages and some town areas under Pungro Sub-Division in Kiphire District have been affected in natural fury.

According to the reports of Nagaland government, hailstones measuring at least one and half to two inches wide destroyed 273 houses in Salomi, forty two houses in Khonsa EAC HQ and 66 houses in Moya.

It also affected 60 houses in  Penkim, 35 houses Pungro town,15 houses in Pungro  village,12 houses in New Wongti and 9 house were damaged in Kiuro village on Tuesday as per the assessment of Administration Pungro Sub-Division.

ADC Pungro Abhinav Shivam along with subordinate officers, VGs and NGOs visited the affected area and provided several bags of rice and some materials rolls of plastic to enable them to mend their homes as an urgent, safety measures.

Meanwhile, the administration is also tying up with RD department in order to provide CGI sheet to all the affected households/villages.

The Executive Engineer, Power Department, Tuengsang has agreed to send 35 rolls PVC wires by tomorrow for restoration of wiring in Salomi.

PHE department is about to assess the damages of pipelines in Khonsa, so as to quickly restore damaged pipeline.
