Heavy rains warning issued for parts of India
"It would move slowly north-northeastwards and weaken into a depression during next 12 hours," read a statement issued by the government.
Due to the depression, heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and isolated extremely heavy falls over Gujarat region, Daman and Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Saurashtra, Kutch is predicted for Wednesday and Thursday.
Moderate rainfall is also expected to occur at most places in the region.
"Heavy to very heavy is also predicted at a few places on 31 July 2015 over the same region," read the statement.
Similarly, the Indian Meteorological Department predicted that rainfall would occur at most places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places over Rajasthan during next 72 hours and at isolated places over West Madhya Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
Squally winds with speed reaching to 45-55 kmph along and off Gujarat and north Konkan coasts are expected during next 48 hours.
"Sea condition would be rough to very rough along and off Gujarat & north Konkan coasts during the same period," read the statement.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Gujarat & north Konkan coasts during the same period.
Another depression over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh and West Bengal moved south-eastwards, concentrated into a deep depression and lay centred over northeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Bangladesh near lat. 21.00 N and long. 91.00 E, 160 km south-southwest of Chittagong (Bangladesh) at 530 hrs IST on Wednesday, the government said.
"The system would move nearly northwards and cross Bangladesh coast between longitude 90.50E and 91.50E around 30th forenoon," read the government statement.
Because of this heavy to very heavy rainfall would occur at isolated places over the Gangetic West Bengal and Odisha during the next 48 hours and at a few places during the subsequent 24 hours over the region, it said.
"Squally winds with speeds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph along and off West Bengal & north Odisha coasts are expected during the next 48 hours. Sea condition would be rough to very rough over North Bay of Bengal during the same period. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along & off West Bengal and north Odisha coasts during the same period," the government said.
Meanwhile, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee said she will return to state from London soon.
"Speaking to senior officials in Bengal monitoring closely the impending cyclone. Exploring possibility of returning from London a day early," she tweeted.
"I am taking the night flight back from London because of the impending cyclone. Have spoken to Home Secretary. Taking all precautions," she said.
