Himachal Pradesh: Congress takes out protest rallies in all blocks of Hamirpur against Agnipath scheme

Hamirpur/UNI: While demanding scrapping of the newly launched Agnipath scheme for the recruitment in the Indian army, the Congress leaders and workers held protest rallies and resorted to "Satyagraha" in all the blocks of the district today as per the decision of the state unit of the party.

The party leaders and workers held rallies and processions and raised anti central government slogans, claimed Rajendra Zar, the district President of the Congress party Monday. He said the Satyagraha in Hamirpur district was a grand success.

Zar said the Agnipath scheme for four years in the army was neither in the interest of the country nor in the interest of the army. Today there is a need to strengthen the army in the country.

He said the government should not make the Agnipath scheme a question of its prestige. In the interest of the country and the state, according to the spirit of the country, this scheme should be canceled and recruitment should be done in the army according to the rules laid down earlier. The central government should reconsider this plan and cancel it immediately in the interest of the country and the army.

Zar said there was a need to strengthen the army in the country.

"The army plays an important role in the internal and external security of the country. Recruitment in the army is not only for the purpose of employment, but with the spirit of patriotism. Therefore, no effort should be made to reduce this spirit in the youth in any way."

Meanwhile, Col. BC Lagwal (retd) and a prominent Congress party leader of the district while talking to media blamed the central government for resorting to Agnipath scheme for recruitment of youth in the Indian army. He said this scheme was anti-youth and must be scrapped in the larger interests of the youth.

He said the BJP was downgrading the army and had launched only this scheme to help the big industrialists of India who wanted disciplined forces to manage their establishments. He said Indian jawans were not trained to manage the establishments of the private parties, as their main job was to defend the borders of the nation from the enemies.

Lagwal said if the Agnipath scheme was not scrapped, the Congress party would continue to oppose it and expose the real face of the BJP to the masses.
