Himanta Biswa Sarma to be Assam's new chief minister: Reports

| @indiablooms | May 09, 2021, at 06:53 pm

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s strongman Himanta Biswa Sarma is all set to take over as the new chief minister of Assam. He will replace Sarbananda Sonowal.

Biswa was chosen capping speculations over whether he will replace the incumbent chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The ruling BJP-led alliance in Assam created history in the state by becoming the only non-Congress government to win consecutive terms.

Media reports said at the legislature party meeting in Guwahati on Sunday, Sonowal had proposed the name of Sarma after PM Modi gave his nod for Biswa's elevation.
