'I became a big victim of medical crime': Taslima Nasrin shares the horror of hip replacement
India-based Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasrin, whose pictures on a hospital bed triggered reactions from netizens about her health, Thursday clarified that she was not ill but became a victim of a gross medical crime.
The controversial writer, who was blacklisted from Bangladesh and has been residing in India since 2004, recounted in horror how her seeking knee treatment following her fall at home left her with a hip replacement in a New Delhi hospital.
In a tweet, Nasrin wrote: "I became a big victim of medical crime. I was a healthy and fit person. In the name of treating my knee strain, they cut the parts of my healthy body off; my healthy hip joint, my femur were thrown away and a metal was put inside me. They have made me permanently handicapped."

She said her X-Ray report shows no fracture on her femur or anywhere.
"I have seen my Xray report today. My Xray shows no fracture on my femur or anywhere. I came to a city private hospital to treat my knee pain after I fell on my knee. I never had any joint pain or any joint disease. But my total hip replacement was done," Nasrin posted.

She said she fell victim to the doctor whom she considered a friend and relied upon to get her knee pain treated.
In a long Facebook post, Nasrin listed down the conditions under which hip replacements are done.
She mentioned that the doctor kept convincing her even after saying no hip replacement.
The author further alleged that she was given no time to think over this and consult other people.
She clarified that she never had any problem with her joints which could have necessitated such a procedure.
Ending her post, she said, "I still can't believe that such eminent doctors can commit such a horrifying crime."
"I also do not know what happened to my sound mind and how I allowed myself to fall a victim to this crime," she added.
This comes after Taslima Nasrin shared a post on Sunday stating that a second's casualness could have cost her life.
Sharing a picture from the hospital bed, she made netizens curious and worried about her health.
It was then she followed up her post with another long one explaining how she tripped in her home wearing an oversized pyjama.
Nasrin said while she was shocked the doctors replaced her hip, she had been assured that she would be able to walk but will have several lifelong restrictions.
Taslima Nasrin is known for her writing on women's oppression and criticism of Islam. Some of her books are banned in Bangladesh where she is blacklisted and banished.
She gained global attention by the beginning of 1990s owing to her essays and novels with feminist views and criticism of what she characterizes as all "misogynistic" religions.
Nasrin has been living in exile since 1994, with multiple fatwas calling for her death.
After living more than a decade in Europe and the United States, she moved to India in 2004.
She has been living in India on a resident permit long-term, multiple-entry or 'X' visa since 2004.
