I have not used public office to enrich myself: Manmohan Singh on 2G scam
New Delhi, May 27 (IBNS ) Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday hit back at the Narendra Modi Government on the 2G scam issue, saying he never used public money to enrich himself.
"I have not used public office to enrich myself, family or friends," he said while speaking at a function, a day after former Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) chairman Pradip Baijal raised an accusing finger at him.
Singh, who has been under intense attack of the BJP, accused the ruling party of harping on corruption to divert people's attention to non-issues.
He said institutions of democracy are under threat.
Singh also slammed the BJP-led NDA Government for its economic policies :"All is not well on the economy front...there is a fragileness in economic recovery under the present Government," the former PM said.
He denied charges made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against the UPA Governments and said " talks of policy paralysis is untrue, when our govt left, India was the second fastest growing economy."
On Wednesday, former telecom regulator Pradip Baijal has alleged that the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had asked him to cooperate with then telecom minister Dayanidhi Maran since non-cooperation could compromise his government. According to Baijal, Maran warned him of “serious consequences” if he gave the unified licensing recommendations despite being told not to.
