'I need justice, my family needs justice': Maharashtra MLA Zeeshan on father Baba Siddique's murder

Mumbai/IBNS: In his first reaction after his father and former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique was shot dead last week, Bandra East MLA Zeeshan Siddique Thursday said he and his family want justice.

Siddique also appealed that his father's death should neither be politicised nor should it go in vain.

In a post on X on Thursday, Zeeshan Siddique wrote: "My father lost his life protecting and saving the lives and homes of poor innocent people. Today, my family is broken but his death must not be politicised and definitely not go in vain. I NEED JUSTICE, MY FAMILY NEEDS JUSTICE!"

The 66-year-old NCP leader was shot dead outside his son Zeeshan Siddique's office in Bandra East, Mumbai, on October 13.

The attack occurred around 9:30 pm when assailants opened fire, targeting Siddique and his associate, with multiple bullets fatally hitting the politician in the chest. A few hours later, the infamous Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the assassination in a social media post.

The three men who shot dead Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Baba Siddique threw chilli powder at police officers and also carried pepper spray as a part of the assassination plan, media reports said.

Among the three, two men- Gurmel Baljit Singh from Haryana and Dharmaraj Kashyap from Uttar Pradesh- have been arrested.

The third accused- Shivkumar Gautam- is on the run.

During interrogation, the shooters confessed to the cops that they were given a contract to kill both Baba Siddique and Zeeshan, media reports said.

As per the police, the shooters were told both the father and the son would be present at the murder spot on October 13 evening.

Zeeshan Siddique, a Congress MLA from Vandre East, was expelled by the party months ago after instances of cross-voting during the legislative council elections.

The Lawrence Bishnoi gang had claimed responsibility for the murder of Baba Siddique.

Soon after the execution, the gang also issued a death threat for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, who was close to Siddique.

A Rs 25 lakh contract was issued to kill actor Salman Khan near his farmhouse in Maharashtra’s Panvel, according to a chargesheet filed by the Navi Mumbai Police, media reports said.

The chargesheet, which names five people, indicates that the contract was given by a gang led by jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, reported NDTV.
