I-T returns: Jayalalithaa, Sasikala skip court
Instead, Jayalalithaa moved the Supreme Court to extend her trial in the case by another four months.
Earlier on Apr 3, Jayalalithaa had skipped appearing before the court and filed a petition seeking exemption from personal appearance in the case.
On Mar 20, the court directed Jayalalithaa and Sasikala to appear before it on Apr 3 in connection with the case.
In January, the Supreme Court had said Jayalalithaa will face trial in a lower court for not filing Income Tax (I-T) returns between 1991 and 1994.
However, the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) supremo said she did not file the I-T returns as she had no income to show in those three years.
The I-T department had filed the case against her in the apex court.
The Supreme Court ordered the lower court to finish Jayalalithaa's trial within four months.
