In response to Pak's congratulations, PM Modi highlighted importance of terror-free environment
New Delhi, June 20 (IBNS): In response to the congratulatory messages of Pakistan, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had highlighted the importance of terror-free environment, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said in a statement.
The MEA said, "As per the established diplomatic practice, PM and EAM have responded to the congratulatory messages received from their counterparts in Pakistan. In their messages, they have highlighted that India seeks normal and cooperative relations with all neighbours, including Pakistan."
The Prime Minister had said, "For this, it is important to build an environment of trust, free of terror, violence and hostility." EAM also emphasized the need for an 'atmosphere free from the shadow of terror and violence'.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan had congratulated Modi for registering a landslide victory in the Lok Sabha polls to return to power for the second term.
Amid a strenuous relationship between the two nations, Khan has offered talks to Modi over the issues of Kashmir and terrorism.
Writing a letter to Modi, Khan urged the Indian Prime Minister to shred all differences to settle the dispute between the two countries. The Pakistan Prime Minister said talks was the only option to overcome the poverty of people from both the countries.
The relationship between the two nations deteriorated after the Feb 14 Pulwama terror attack, which was carried out by Pakistan-based militant organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM).
Following the terror attack, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had carried out an airstrike in Balakote in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Later, Pakistan also claimed it had retaliated. The tension between the two nations grew after IAF Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman was shot down and captured by Pakistan.
Amid global pressure, Varthaman was returned to India.
