India asks its citizens to avoid unnecessary travel to and within Ukraine

India has advised its citizens to avoid all non-essential travel to and within Ukraine and asked them to strictly adhere to the safety and security guidelines issued by the local authorities.

The advisory was issued hours after Russia carried out missile strikes against multiple Ukrainian cities, including Kyiv, in which at least 10 people were killed and around 60 others were injured.

Indian nationals are requested to keep the Embassy informed about the status of their presence in Ukraine to enable the embassy to reach out to them, where required, it added.

In New Delhi, responding to media queries on the escalation of conflict in Ukraine, Ministry of External Affairs official spokesperson Arindam Bagchi reiterated that escalation of hostilities is in no one’s interest.

"India is deeply concerned at the escalation of the conflict in Ukraine, including the targeting of infrastructure and deaths of civilians," he said and urged the immediate cessation of hostilities.

India has not yet condemned Russia's invasion of Ukraine but has maintained that the conflict must be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.
