New Delhi/IBNS: During the 6th meeting of the India Bangladesh Joint Consultative Commission held on Thursday, both countries have agreed to initiate air travel bubble flights to meet requirements of travellers on both sides during the COVID pandemic.

Pursuant to this understanding, the bilateral air bubble between India and Bangladesh has been operationalized with effect from Octo 28 with two flights of US-Bangla Airlines flying on Dhaka-Kolkata and Dhaka-Chennai sectors.

The inaugural flight was flagged off jointly by High Commissioner and Chairman, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh and CEO of US-Bangla Airlines.

"This Air Bubble has been operationalized to cater to travel needs of nationals on both sides. Particularly cater to the urgent medical requirements of Bangladesh nationals visiting India for treatment," Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said on Thursday.

All Visas, except Tourist Visas, are currently being issued by the High Commission of India, Dhaka and our four Assistant High Commissions in Bangladesh.

In the next few days, major Indian and Bangladesh airlines will commence flight operations between the two countries.
